Cookie & Data Usage
This page explains how My Africa Directory uses cookies, browser storage and information submitted through the website.
1. Information you provide
We process information that visitors and providers submit, including account details, business profiles, messages, reviews, support requests, newsletter subscriptions and uploaded content. The information is used to operate the directory and provide the requested service.
2. Cookie categories
| Category | Purpose | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Security, provider/admin sessions, form processing, saved cookie choices and core website operation. | Always active |
| Performance | Optional measurement of page visits and performance through Google Analytics. | Off until accepted |
| Targeting | Optional advertising or cross-site measurement integrations when introduced and enabled. | Off until accepted |
| Functionality | Optional preference and enhancement features that are not required for the main service. | Off until accepted |
3. Cookies currently used
- .AspNetCore.Session — an essential session cookie used for provider/admin login state, CAPTCHA and related website functions. The configured idle period is eight hours.
- mad_cookie_consent — an essential first-party cookie that remembers your choices for up to one year.
- _ga and related Google Analytics cookies — created only after Performance cookies are accepted. Their duration and operation are controlled by Google Analytics.
4. Technical information
The server may process technical information such as IP address, browser/device information, requested pages, timestamps and security logs. Public business enquiries and reviews may store limited technical information to support abuse prevention, moderation and service delivery.
5. Installed web app and offline storage
The My Africa Directory Progressive Web App caches only the offline page and public static assets such as icons, stylesheets, scripts and images. Provider/Admin pages, form submissions, payment pages, API calls and SignalR traffic are excluded from service-worker caching.
6. Changing your preferences
You may reopen the cookie preference panel at any time. Declining optional categories does not stop essential cookies required for security and core operation.
7. Questions or requests
Use the Help Center or Support page to ask questions about your information or request assistance.
